Hyaluronic acid: vegan creams, serums and gels, for face and for men
In short: hyaluronic acid binds water and forms a hydrating film on the surface of the skin. Epic Beauty uses it in 22 products, from the lightweight hydrating serum and the micellar water to the men's face cream and the cream for sensitive skin. All of them are vegan, and 14 are made from COSMOS-certified formulas. Below you'll find what it does in each type of product, how to apply it and what to pair it with.
Our formulas use it in two forms: sodium hyaluronate, a larger molecule, and hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, in smaller fragments. The kind used in cosmetics is made by bacterial fermentation, not from animal sources. The sources are in our ingredients guide.
In the lightweight hydrating serum and the intense hydrating gel it is one of the core humectants, in a light texture. In creams such as the cream for sensitive skin or the men's face cream, it works alongside butters and oils that reduce water loss. In the micellar water and the hydrating toner, it helps the skin not feel tight after cleansing.
Frequently asked questions
Damp skin or dry skin?
On slightly damp skin, right after cleansing or after toner, so it has water to bind at the surface. Then apply your cream, which keeps the hydration in. In a room with very dry air, a hyaluronic acid serum used on its own can leave the skin feeling tight, so don't skip the cream. More in our ingredients guide.
Serum, cream, or both?
It depends on how dry your skin is. For oily or combination skin, a light serum or gel may be enough. For dry or mature skin, apply the serum first and the cream on top: both contain hyaluronic acid, but the cream adds butters and oils that reduce water loss. More in our ingredients guide.
Is it suitable for men, after shaving?
Yes. The men's face cream contains hyaluronic acid in two forms and absorbs quickly, so you can apply it right after shaving, on clean skin. On the days you shave, leave exfoliants aside. More in our ingredients guide.
